Nintendo Gaming Accessories on Apple Devices

Good news for all of the gamers out there! Apple now supports Nintendo gaming accessories – their classic game controllers – with its latest mobile device updates. Nintendo’s modern SNES and N64 controllers finally work with updated Apple devices with macOS 13, iPad iOS 16, iOS 16.1, and tvOS 16.1, whether wired or Bluetooth.

Play Retro Games in Your Apple Device
You can enjoy the new features on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV and play classic and retro-inspired games through Apple Arcade and the App Store. In post-update, you’ll also be able to wirelessly connect the NES, SNES, and N64 Bluetooth Classic Controllers to your preferred Apple mobile device.
With a video demonstrating a BT/USB-C Super Nintendo controller for the Switch, developer Steve Troughton-Smith said in a tweet that he believes the Apple platforms support the N64 and NES controllers for the Switch, too.
MacStories confirmed that these gaming accessories also work with iPadOS 16.1 and macOS Ventura, including the Nintendo 64 controller. When in pairing mode, the controller appears in the Bluetooth settings of each OS as “SNES Controller.”
How to Connect a Nintendo Classic Game Controller to an Apple Device
Connecting Nintendo’s classic gaming accessories to your Apple mobile device won’t take a lot of time, especially if you’ll learn to master how to do it. However, it may be challenging for first-time users or people who are not tech-savvy, so here’s a quick guide to do it with ease.
First things first, make sure your controller is charged and your Apple mobile device and Bluetooth are turned on. For iPhone or iPad, go to the Settings, then Bluetooth Settings menu to turn the Bluetooth on. Meanwhile, on Mac, go to the Apple Menu, click on System Preferences, and then Bluetooth.
Press the sync button on the controller. The list of compatible devices will appear. Select the device you want to connect to. Then your retro handset will work right away. You can enjoy playing all the games you want with these gaming accessories.
For Apple TV, it may be a bit different. You have to go into your device Settings, then Remotes and Devices, and select Bluetooth. You’ll see an option “How to Pair Game Controllers.” Select it and follow the onscreen instructions.
Nintendo’s classic gaming accessories are originally available to use with its Switch Online service that comes with access to collections of SNES and NES games. In June, Apple also added support for Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Pro Controllers.
