The long wait is over for Apple fans. Today, September 13, at 1:00AM Manila Time, Apple has introduced the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, and other key highlights, at its keynote event held in Cupertino, California.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus showcase a stunning and robust new design, introduce the innovative Dynamic Island, boast a formidable 48MP primary camera, and are powered by the cutting-edge A16 Bionic chip; not to forget the home to alerts, notifications and other controls, in place of the notch. 

Both iPhone models will come in five dazzling new colors: pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. In the US, this can be pre-ordered starting on Friday, September 15, and they will be available for purchase on Friday, September 22. 4K Cinematic Mode and Enhanced Photo Stabilization

The iPhone 15 models feature enhanced image stabilization for capturing both photos and videos, a 2x optimization for improved performance, updated portrait capabilities with richer colors and enhanced low-light performance, and the addition of a 4K cinematic mode.

Apple has revealed camera enhancements for both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, introducing an automatic portrait mode that can discern when a single individual is in the frame. Additionally, they’ve incorporated Smart HDR to improve the capturing of images featuring animals.

Screen Size and Nearby Connections

Furthermore, the iPhone 15 models come in two size options: a 6.1-inch screen for the standard iPhone 15 and a larger 6.7-inch display for the iPhone 15 Plus.

The iPhone 15 is equipped with Apple’s second-generation, ultra-wideband chip, enabling seamless connectivity with nearby devices, from up to three times farther away. This facilitates improved location tracking of friends in crowded areas and supports various iOS 17 features.\

Flexible Connection Capabilities

Apple users can now utilize universal USB-C chargers to charge their iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers, marking the conclusion of an 11-year era featuring the Lightning port and charger.

Action Button ditches the ring silencer

Apple has introduced a significant update in the iPhone 15 Pro, replacing the long-standing ring silencer toggle switch that made its debut in the original iPhone back in 2007. The new feature, known as the “action button,” has evolved from a simple switch to a pressable button.

While its default function remains silencing alerts, the action button can now be customized to perform a wide range of tasks. These tasks include recording voice memos, capturing photos, or even activating accessibility features like live speech. Users will receive visual feedback for each action from the Dynamic Island bar displayed at the top of the screen.

High-End Pro line: Lighter and Stronger

The company showed off the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, now with a titanium casing, the same alloy used in the Mars Rover (colors include white, silver, blue and black titanium). How high-end can’t it get, right?

Launching a camera or starting an audio recording become simply accessible pressing and holding the action button on the side of the iPhone Pro line models. 

An added feature will be made available later this year to allow users to feel more immersed in their captured spatial videos. 

While waiting for this late feature, the Pro line lets you experience a 48 MP camera with a larger sensor, enabling better low-light performance for portrait and night mode, and has four times resolution than before. The rear-facing camera system features a telephoto lens that enables 5x optical zoom.

iOS 17 Features

The iPhone becomes even more intuitive and personal with the following iOS 17 capabilities:

1. The Phone app receives significant updates, including Contact Posters, enabling users to personalize their appearance to their contacts, and Live Voicemail, which utilizes the A16 Bionic’s power to provide real-time on-device transcription as voicemails are being left. Users can even answer calls while the caller is recording their message.
2. StandBy provides users with a customizable full-screen interface displaying glanceable information, perfect for viewing from a distance when the iPhone is placed on its side and charging. It supports Live Activities, Siri, incoming calls, and larger notifications, making it an ideal addition to a nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk.
3. NameDrop offers a novel way to use AirDrop for sharing contact information effortlessly by bringing two iPhone devices together. This same gesture can also be used to AirDrop various content and more.
   
4. Messages introduces a new sticker experience, enhanced search functionality, audio message transcriptions, and Check In, allowing users to automatically notify friends and family of their safe arrival at a destination.

Crash Detection for Safety

Crash Detection employs cutting-edge sensors in conjunction with Apple’s specially crafted algorithms to identify a serious car collision. In the event that a user is unconscious or unable to access their iPhone, it will automatically initiate a call to emergency services.

Watch Series 9 on Carbon-Neutral Initiative

Apple’s Watch Series 9 is set to become the company’s inaugural carbon-neutral product, a certification validated by an independent third party.

In a strong commitment to sustainability, Apple also announced that they will cease the use of leather in all new Apple products, including watch bands. Instead, they will introduce a new material referred to as “fine woven” as a leather alternative.

Ultra 2 Smartwatch Unveiled

Apple unveiled the latest version of its robust Ultra smartwatch series, boasting a brighter display that ensures optimal readability even in the most glaring sunlight. This iteration is powered by the enhanced S9 custom chip and introduces a new UWB chip. Additionally, it inherits the popular Double Tap feature from the Series 9 while expanding the on-screen information for more comprehensive tracking capabilities.
