In January, Razer Gaming announced in the virtual Consumer Technology Association (CES) show that they were working on a high-tech smart mask. Dubbed as “Project Hazel”, they called the mask “the world’s smartest and most socially friendly face mask”. Well, it looks like that mask is soon turning into a reality.

Razer said the mask would be an N95 medical-grade respirator… but with a built-in microphone and amplifier so that the wearers could be heard better. If you’ve ever struggled to be heard through your face mask, then this might be something to tickle your fancy. The mask will apparently also be waterproof and have a transparent area so people can see your face. In fact, the mask will also have internal lights so people can see your face even in the dark.

Of course, we can’t be entirely sure how much of these features will actually be incorporated into the face mask until it’s out, but Razer Gaming has confirmed that the project is a go! Addie Tan, Razer’s Associated Director of Business Development said in a statement that “Razer is working on mass-producing a smart face mask inspired by project Hazel. The concept design that was presented at CES. The final product will be made available in part of Razer’s portfolio of surgical, cloth, and smart masks. It may include features borrowed from the original concept design, but with a focus on affordability and practicality for everyday wear.”
