So the Playstation 5 has finally started to become available locally, and it’s been met with a lot of deserved fanfare. If you’re one of the lucky ducks who’ve been able to get one for yourselves–and even if you haven’t yet managed to do so, hey, you still have 11 months left in 2021 to get one this year–you might as well keep abreast of all the hot Playstation games to ogle, wait for and purchase when you get a PS5 of your very own.

Are you game? If so, we can definitely help with that! Step right this way and check out our shortlist of upcoming new games below.

Grand Theft Auto V

GTA V and the GTA franchise itself scarcely need any introduction. The Rockstar Games series is an action adventure game that’s one of the most renowned of its sort. It’s set in the fictional state of San Andreas (which is based on Southern California), and is a single-player story that follows in the footsteps of street gangster Franklin Clinton, retired bank robber Michael de Santa, and drug dealer and arms smuggler Trevor Philips as they try to commit crimes while being tracked and watched by other criminals and the government. Play from either a first-person or third-person perspective and navigate the mean streets of San Andreas–shoot, drive, and walk/run–while doing so. You can also play the game’s online multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto Online, where you can compete/cooperate with up to 29 fellow players.

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil Village is an eagerly awaited first-person-perspective survival horror game from Capcom. The 10th installment in the Resident Evil series, this game is set a few years after its predecessor, Resident Evil 7, and features the return of Ethan Winters as the protagonist. Play as Ethan when his world and that of his wife Mia–who are living peacefully in a new location free from past horrors–is rocked once again, this time by the unexpected appearance of Chris Redfield and the subsequent chain of events that lead to the mysterious and frightening titular village. The game will also include a six-player online multiplayer game, Resident Evil RE:VERSE. Resident Evil Village is scheduled to drop on May 7, 2021.

Hogwarts Legacy

Set (obviously) in the Wizarding World, Hogwarts Legacy is an upcoming action role-playing game. The time is the late 1800s, and you’ll play as a new Hogwarts student; as such you’ll undergo the whole experience, from choosing your Hogwarts House to attending classes and exploring the open world of the game that consists of a wide range of locations–from the Forbidden Forest to Hogsmeade Village and many others as well. You’ll learn to become a true wizard or witch and to learn to do things like casting spells, brewing magical potions, engaging in combat, and taming magical beasts. Exciting even if you aren’t a dedicated Harry Potter fan.

Horizon Forbidden West

The sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West is another action role-playing game that’s expected this year. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, it continues the quest of Aloy, the young huntress of the Nora tribe, who has embarked on a quest to the frontier called the Forbidden West in order to find the origin of a strange disease that kills everything. Face vicious storms, duel with massive and fearsome new machines, reunite with old friends, broker peace with warring tribes and people, and understand the legacy of the ancient past while staying one step ahead of a new enemy who seems impossible to defeat.

God of War: Ragnarok

We end our shortlist with one of 2021’s most eagerly anticipated games. GOW is of course the landmark game that first launched on PS4 to widespread acclaim, and Ragnarok is its hotly awaited second act. Kratos and his son Atreus will return in this game, which will continue to be set in the world of Norse mythology. But the action has been edged up a notch or three, at least so the name hints: Ragnarok is after all the cataclysmic series of events in ancient Norse mythology that brings about the end of days and depicts the demise of the Norse gods (a development foretold by one of the pivotal events in GOW after Kratos’ execution of the god Baldur). GOW: Ragnarok has been recognized as one of the most anticipated 2021 games (and not just by us) by a wide range of publications and websites worldwide.
